The State Archives has important and extensive holdings. Research can draw on stocks of more than 23 running kilometres of files and official books; more than 304,000 maps and posters; around 44,000 charters and more than 101,000 images, to name only the most important items.

Services for users

In order to ensure the effective use of these resources, the State Archives provides various services. First and foremost is the reading room, which offers all users a very good research environment. Competent personnel provide assistance, offer advice and locate the correct contact person within the archives. If the distance to the reading room is too far, you can naturally also contact us by post or by e-mail. Our section heads are happy to provide you with professional information in this way.

You can order high-quality reproductions from our professionally equipped photo workshop. Our photographer is happy to assist you. Our research database HADIS (www.hadis.hessen.de

) offers users worldwide comprehensive information from all three state archives as well as other archives in Hesse.
